1. Who we are
Deals Place is an Alberta-based marketplace connecting diners with partner restaurants offering deals on real menu items. This policy describes what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA federally and Alberta's PIPA provincially).
2. Information we collect
From diners
- Phone number (used for SMS-based login)
- Name and email if you provide them when completing your profile
- Approximate location, only when you choose to share it, so we can show nearby deals
- Reservation history, pickup codes, and dietary preferences you set
- Device information and basic analytics about how you use the app
From restaurant partners
- Business name, address, contact details, menu and pricing information
- Bank or payout details only if and when we add a payments feature (none currently)
From the launch waitlist
- Email address (diners) and contact information (restaurants) provided through the waitlist forms on dealsplace.ca
3. How we use information
- To operate the Service: showing you deals, holding reservations, generating pickup codes, sending the receipts and notifications you've opted into.
- To improve the Service: anonymous usage analytics and product research.
- To communicate with you: confirmations, support replies, and (with your consent) marketing about new deals or features.
- For safety and legal compliance: detecting fraud, preventing abuse, and responding to lawful requests.
4. How we share information
We share information only as needed for the Service to work and as described in this policy:
- With the restaurant you reserve from — the pickup code and the dish you reserved, so they can hand you the food. Your phone number is not shared with them.
- With service providers — companies that help us run the Service (hosting, SMS delivery, analytics, error monitoring). They are bound by data-protection agreements and may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- For legal reasons — if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users.
We do not sell personal information.
5. Marketing communications
We will only send you marketing emails or SMS if you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time by following the link in any marketing email, replying STOP to an SMS, or emailing hello@dealsplace.ca.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the site is used in aggregate. We do not currently use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. You can disable cookies in your browser; some parts of the Service may not work without them.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as we need it to provide the Service or as required by law. Reservation records are kept for up to seven years for accounting purposes. If you delete your account, we anonymize or delete the personal data tied to it.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and request a copy of it.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Withdraw consent to specific uses (for example, marketing).
- Request that we delete personal information that is no longer necessary.
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@dealsplace.ca.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect personal information, including encryption in transit and at rest, restricted access on a need-to-know basis, and regular security review. No system is perfect; we will notify affected users of any breach as required by law.
11. Changes to this policy
We will post updates to this URL and revise the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated to active accounts by email or in-app notice before they take effect.
